This rugged bracelet started as a sheet of copper, then it was heated and folded (like a sheet of paper!) The process, called “fold forming” was repeated several times to get the result you see here. An organic, imperfect hand made ONE OF A KIND work of art!
The bracelet was given a patina to emphasize the textures and folds – which appear on the inside as well as out.
It is coated in Renaissance Wax to help retard tarnish and also keep your skin from turning green (some people turn green simply by touching copper.) In order to maintain your bracelet, remove it when swimming or showering, and when you return home from your day. Recoating of wax can be accomplished as needed – you can use Renaissance, Johnsons or even Turtle Wax. Just like a car “wax on, wax off”.
This bracelet measures 7 ½” around with a 1” gap. Pulling or squeezing the ends to open or close can adjust it. It is 1” wide.
Melany Sarafis served her country for 24 years and recently retired from the USAF as a First Sergeant. She thinks it's really stupid when photographers refer to themselves in the 3rd person on their biographies. I needed to do something "low speed" after a successful but stressful military career. I've have been an avid photographer for a few years and enjoy this "internal" creative process and I was a full time student at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Tx, pursuing a BFA in Studio Arts with an emphasis in Photography and Jewelry/Metalsmith Work. After taking an Art History course and learning a little about the Renaissance, I've become enamored with this art era. I took a trip to Florence Italy (the home of the Renaissance)...
