Description
The Duomo and Cathedral in Florence towers over the entire city. I climbed to the top of Brunaleschi's dome and the view was amazing! This is Santa Croce, the church that Michelangelo attended, and now contains his buriel place as well as that of Galileo. Many frescos inside were done by Giotto and his pupils. Construction began in 1294, and it was consecrated in 1442. Changes to the interior were made in 1560, a result of the Counter Reformation of the Catholic Church, and the interior was rebuilt by Gorgio Vasari. Vasari also designed Michelangelo's tomb. The marble facad was added in 1863.
