Description
Historic Ponte Vecchio on the Arno River in Florence, Italy. In the 15th century, the ruling Medici family built a corrider over the bridge, so they can cross it getting between their palace and offices without having to mingle with the little people below. Before this, the bridge was lined with butchers, who just tossed the leftovers into the river. The Medici evicted the butchers, and replaced them with gold shops, which are still there today -- and WAY overpriced.
